From Double Storms Last Weekend To Highland Snow This Weekend… Northerly Late Next Week?

Last weekend, Scotland was hit by a double whammy of Storm Malik followed speedily by Storm Corrie.

Why was #StormCorrie so unusual?

This weekend it’s a split between polar-maritime and subtropical maritime air with heavy snow showers piling into the Highlands aboard a strong to gale force NW wind.

These frequent, blustery snow showers have caused poor driving conditions on high level road routes with several centimetres accumulating to less than 800 feet asl, double that above 2,000ft.

Higher pressure briefly nudges in this evening ahead of the next system tomorrow. Ahead of the next system and milder air, we could see a pretty cold night over the snow cover!

Keep in mind the lowest temp of the winter so far is only -10.2C.

Warm front arrives tomorrow attached to 924mb beast centred between Iceland and Greenland.

Temps should rebound back to between 9-12C UK-wide Monday afternoon within the warm sector.

Colder mid/late week with Northerly blast?

Behind the cold front, another polar-maritime looks to push east and eventually south over the UK Tuesday-Wednesday on with possibly a northerly to end the workweek.
