Asia Takes Extremes To Next Level

It’s been a crazy past 6-12 months across large swathes of Asia. Relentless record heat with spells of extreme cold. The wild and erratic swings have been eye popping.

As you can see, warmth has been dominant in the past 90 days or the period between late November through late February.

It seems when it’s warm, it’s record very warm or off the scale warm but ‘at times’ when cold, it’s VERY cold to record cold.

In my personal opinion, here is some explanation to these extremes.

  • Abnormally warm NW Pacific coupled with La Nina last summer.
  • Development of a strong El Nino
  • Relentless summer/autumn heat waves
  • Strong +IOD/MJO enhancing sinking over maritime continent (drought, record heat SE Asia)
  • Solar max?
  • Hunga Tonga eruption?
  • Warm overall oceans/land/atmosphere?

China & Mongolia

Korea & Japan

Central Asia

SE Asia

Siberia
