30ft Drifts Remain Tucked Within The Drumochter Hills 1.5 Months After ‘Beast From The East’

I went for a walk into the the Drumochter Hills on Tuesday to bag another couple of munros. To the east of the A9 and just south of Dalwhinnie, I discovered huge snow drifts tucked within the narrow Coire nan Cisteachan gully between Carn na Caim and A’Bhuidheanach Bheag. So I went in for a closer look.

These were quite the find in my opinion given their quite far south position and within not particularly high hills.

According to Iain Cameron, these monstrous drifts were likely sculpted by the powerful easterly winds generated by the late February/early March ‘Beast from the East’.

Based on my height, I estimated this particular drift to be at least 30ft tall.
