NORTHWEST EUROPE: Low pressure in May brings big weather/temperature contrasts

Low pressure currently spinning over the northeast Atlantic (just west of Ireland) and high pressure over France is drawing unusually warm air aboard southwest winds north.

Just as the low’s front pushed into Scotland overnight, temps held in the balmy upper teens overnight and only fell to 16C at Achnagart, Highland. Record warm for a May minimum.

The warmth is short lived and for us here in Scotland, we’re already in a cooling trend but remaining ahead of the front and in sunshine, temps are at 25C in the Southeast of England, 27C in bothy Belgium and Netherlands.

Wednesday’s contrasts broaden as fresher post frontal air sweeps across Northern Ireland and Scotland off the Atlantic while even warmer, more humid air lifts northward over France.
