TUES 20 NOV: UK & IRELAND REGIONAL FORECAST

Scotland

Another day and another wet overnight and morning makes way to a drier, brighter and less windy afternoon for a large chunk of the country. Further rain however will affect the North with a strengthening wind which is expected to reach severe gale-force later this evening across the Western Isles. This will likely cause some disruption to ferry services between Ullapool and Stornoway and other routes.

Through tonight, a clearer sky and lighter winds will support cooler temps and the risk of mist and fog formation as well as some patchy light frost, especially in sheltered Highland and Southern Upland Glens.

Tomorrow will be cooler than today and yesterday’s 14C with only 8-10C but it will also be a much better day with bright skies and no rain, just an odd shower.

During tomorrow night into Thursday, another very active front arrives from the west, accompanying very heavy rain and strong to gale-force winds.

England

From Cornwall to Yorkshire it has been a very wet day with local flooding here and there as well as concern over river levels in the Southwest. Forth northern areas, the morning rains gave way to a dry afternoon with bright or even sunny spells. While the North turns cool under clear skies and light winds with mist and fog patches likely to form, these extending south, possibly as far down as the Vale of York. It’s to the south of here where rains remain heavy and persistent across the Midlands, South and extending into East Anglia through tonight and into a good part of topmorrow. Beneath all the cloud and rain, temps hold up at 10-12C but under clear skies, closer to 4 or 5C.

During a good part of Wednesday those rains are very slow to clear from the South and Southeast, making way for a generally dry and day elsewhere for the majority.

The first part of the night stays dry but the third batch of wet and windy weather sweeps in from the Atlantic early Thursday.

Wales

It’s been a real soaker of a morning across the country along with a gale blowing but as we’ve progressed through the afternoon, clearing has been enjoyed in western parts while the rains continue for the south and east. Into tonight and conditions will improve with less rain with winds easong. The patchy cloud, breeze and shower activity will keep it frost-free tonight with lows dipping to only 5C.

During Wednesday and it’s a much improved picture with bright or sunny spells, accompanied by light winds and little to no showers.

The first part of Wednesday will be fine and dry but as we progress into early Thursday morning, yet another batch of very wet and windy weather will spread in off the Irish Sea. Highs today range from 12-15C, tomorrow 8-11C, Thursday 12-15C.

Northern Ireland

A wet morning has given way to a largely dry and bright afternoon which leads the way to a pleasant overnight tonight. With cloud and a southerly breeze, temps remain up at 5-7C.

Wednesday looks mostly fine with a small risk of showers, the mild southwest breeze and mix of sun and clouds should allow temps to climb to a mild 12-14C..

Into tomorrow night and the next batch of wet and windy weather arrives. It will be a bad night to be driving, so please take extra care and watch for flooded roads.

Ireland

It’s been a very wet and windy spell across Ireland in the past 24 hours and thankfully conditions should improve through this evening. Winds are likely to remain strong with gales along the Atlantic coast but these should ease through the night as this latest system responsible for all the wet and rather stormy weather moves away.

Tomorrow after a cloudy, breezy but drier night, looks much better with bright or sunny spells peaking through the clouds for many. Make the most of it however as another batch of very wet and windy weather returns late tomorrow into Thursday. More flooding is likely and winds touching ‘severe gale’ or ‘storm-force’ may bring down trees and powerlines. Stay safe!
