Watching Indy & DC As All-Time Records May Be Threatened. DC, Baltimore Philly & Newark All Over 100°

The heat is very much ON throughout the Lower Midwest through the Ohio Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. For folks in Chicago, the heat wave is OVER as the front is CURRENTLY pushing through the city and dropping the temperature sharply. I do believe it did strike 100° at O’Hare just before that front hit. Check this out.. by tomorrow, your high will be 80°! Amazing right?

As for other areas that will remain south of the front through the hottest part of the day, well today looks to be the worst of the worst for such cities as St Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Washington DC up through Philadelphia and into New York City.

CURRENT TEMPS AS OF 12.25PM CT, 1.25PM ET

ST LOUIS, MO 105°

INDIANAPOLIS, IN 103°

CINCINNATI, OH 102°

WASHINGTON DC 103°

BALTIMORE, MD 103°

PHILADELPHIA, PA 100°

NEWARK, NJ 100°

CENTRAL PARK, NYC 97°

There are two sites in particular i’m keeping a close eye on this afternoon as they may approach their all-time record. Both Indianapolis (106°) and Washington DC (106°) may be on track to either tie or break the record. I think Indy has the better chance while DC may tie their record IF the cap holds over the region and approaching storms from the northwest hold back and don’t cool the air.

Significant Severe Threat Later This Afternoon Throughout The Northeast As Front Approaches From NW

There are storms already packing a punch over upstate New York and northern PA, these storms are running southeast towards the big cities along the cold front which will bring welcome relief come Monday and a substantial trim in temps tomorrow. Be aare of these cells as they run into 100 air and dew points in the 70s, this is high octane fuel for these cells and the threat for dangerous lightning, flooding rains, gusty, even damaging winds and hail is high.
