A very hot, humid day across the board as the high is strong and sitting just off to the southeast, a location which has instigated a south to southwesterly flow which is drawing very humid, uncomfortable air to make the intense heat feel worse and indeed dangerous. Though it will be sunny or mostly sunny across the region, the combo of 70-degree dew point air and intense surface heating will force cumulus to pop and build into cumulonimbus clouds, which will produce localised thunderstorms. Heavy downpours, lightening and strong winds can be expected anywhere today!
Highs today: Atlanta, 90-94, low 74-76. Montgomery, 95-98, low 75-78, Jacksonville, 95-98, Low 75-79. New Orleans, 93-95, Low 78-81. Portions in southern Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and central Louisiana may see highs in and around 100 this afternoon. Dew Points in the mid to upper 70s may make it feel near 120 in spots.

The Northeast will the meteorologically divided into two distant types of weather. New England from Burlington to Boston may only see highs in the mid-60s with clouds and showers, some heavy, whilst further south, skies are clearer and indeed considerably warmer. Highs will range from between 88-92 for DC & Baltimore. 87-90 for Philadelphia to Trenton and for a a region from Scranton to Atlantic City to New York City highs should range from 82-85 under partly to mostly sunny skies.

A warming trend has begun after a series of Pacific storms rolled through the region bringing cool air as well as winter-like wind and rain. We should see sunshine in abundance as well as highs running well into the 70s for Seattle, Perhaps low to even mid-80s for Portland. Northern California will see plenty of 80s with some spots to the northeast of San Francisco which may rise into the upper 90s to around 100.
southern plains
A hot day for everywhere across the south-central region with highs ranging from 92-94 in Houston, 93-95 at Dallas and around 90 for Oklahoma City on north and east into Kansas and Missouri. East Texas will be dry with sunny continues for a change whilst west Texas may see the wet weather.
northern plains
Another relatively cool, dreaery day with showers likely from North Dakota across to Minneapolis with highs barely making the upper 60s. Down towards Chicago, they will see more sunshine and high pressure influence, Highs for the Windy City should warm into the mid to upper 80s this afternoon.

UK Remains mild, not warm, but reasonable… current models suggest warmer air to return next 5-7 days

The trough persists but the overall pattern is dry for the most part and not particularly cold. Highs across central Scotland should warm into the upper 60s through this week (possibly a day or two at 70 in places) and around 70 to low 70s for the majority of towns and cities across interior Wales and central and southern England, coastal areas will always be cooler. You may be dissapointed and even thinking, where’s summer? Well, we actually have enjoyed a decent spell of weather over the past month with an overall dry pattern, though AS STATED BACK IN APRIL, we live in Britain and will see rainy, cooler days in between warmth. Warmth will over rule cool and dryness will dominate the OVERALL pattern and the dry weather has indeed happened. We tend to have very short term memory syndrum and the first wet, dreary day that comes along, despite perhaps the previous 10 days being dry and sunny, we jump on the “where’s summer gone” statement. Yes the trough has persisted, however though the upper-level pool of cool has be a little stubborn, we have seen more sunshine than cloud and this has helped hold temperature up to seasonal levels, just wait until the Azores ridge progresses back over the UK and we’ll see what warmth is, especially as we push ever closer to the summer solstice and the warmest time of year.

Next week appears (as of now) to see the return to warmer air which may help produce mid-70s across Scotland and low to mid-80s for England.

American South, blazing hot!

Mid-90s is the name of the game for many areas of the South as the Bermuda high holds strong and dominant… Atlanta, New Orleans and areas of north Florida will endure 95 degrees or greater over the next few days… Stay tuned!

IMD has announced the arrival of the Monsoon into Mumbai and Pune on the 11th. of June. IMD has based the arrival on certain criteria they have specified in their web site.

Maybe, but the monsoon current, according to me is still lagging (as on writing this) at the Goa coast, and today is not strong enough to progress Northwards.

The momentunm and push into Konkan will occur when the vortex is formed off the Goa/Konkan coast, and the off shore trough is energised with the resultant clouding. And, as I have said earlier,(10th.blog),this should happen from Monday,14th.The low as a counterpart system in the Arabian Sea off the Konkan coast could be formed as early as Sunday and should track off Konkan ( Mumbai included)-Gujarat coast by 15th. June.
