The far north of Scotland typically sees the UK’s coldest temperatures during the height of summer, often falling to between 0 and 2C.

Yesterday morning was no exception where Kinbrace, Sutherland dipped beneath clear, calm skies to a frosty -0.6C. The Kinbrace record low for July in -1.8C according to climate historian Maximiliano Herrera.

Yesterday’s -0.6C happens to tie the same minimum recorded at Katesbridge, Co Down in July 2015 as the coldest July night in the UK since -0.8C was reached at Kinbrace in July 2011.

The all-time July minimum for the UK is -2.5C recorded at Lagganlia, Inverness-shire in 1977.
