For the last 8 years, April and May’s have been dominated by extreme, off-the-scale heat waves over the sub-continent region of Asia in particular. On the 19th April last year, Larkana, Pakistan soared to 50C (122F) which was a new Asia heat record for April. It was also Asia’s first 50C in April.
This April however has amazingly surpassed last year’s new benchmark with a maximum of 50.2C. Once again in Pakistan but this time in the city of Nawabshah, home to 1.1 million and 120 miles inland from the Indian Ocean.
On the afternoon Nawabshah hit 50.2C, several other Pakistani cities set new April heat records.
This spring’s heat wave across the Middle East, Pakistan and India commenced late March. In fact it was the second straight month in which Nawabshah set a new national monthly record. With a high of 45.5C (113.9F), this was a new March record for Pakistan followed by the 50.2C in the same city in April.
After last April’s new heat record, the month after set a new all-time record for Pakistan and Earth
After setting a new national and continental heat record last April, the following month saw Pakistan set a new all-time record high. Following a suffocating overnight minimum temperature of 34.5C (94F), the western Pakistani town of Turbat observed a temperature of 53.5C (128.3C). Not only a new all-time record for Pakistan but it’s said to have been a new world record for May.
