GFS Keeps Snow On Ground All Week, Deepens It Next Weekend Over UK

Written by on January 14, 2013 in United Kingdom & Ireland with 0 Comments

The cold is certainly in place and for several spots, snow now covers the ground too.

As mentioned yesterday, there is plenty more snow on the way. The snow that comes Monday and Tuesday will further expand the coverage over the UK. This will more than likely bring travel issues.

What’s interesting is the GFS not only shows a decent snowpack throughout this week but it also shows it deepen next Saturday. So, while the snow increases next weekend, the ECMWF suggests a slight height rise and somewhat milder 850 temps.

By midweek, I recon there will be a colder look with this model. Despite this suggestion of milder air, there is a return northerly flow which follows into early next week.

Check out the GFS snow depth chart for today and next Saturday. Notice the increase in depth next Saturday!

Given the forecasted snow cover throughout this week, you not be surprised to see the below charts which keep the cold.

Here’s the latest GFS temp anomaly for the next 8 days.

In the 8-16 day period, the GFS shows a pullback of the cold but I am reluctant to fully believe this.
