20-40F Temperature Drops, Arctic Air Moderates Heading East!

There is a very large temperature spread currently between Montana and the Mid-Mississippi Valley. While temperatures are running 20-30 below normal over the Northern Rockies, it’s 10-20 above normal further east. This sharp divide is courtesy of a vigorous storm system and it’s potent cold front.

Along the front, warm air is being driven northeast and as a result, Minneapolis, MN soared to a record 69 today. To the south into Iowa and Missouri and east into Illinois, highs have soared well into the 70s widely Right along the warm side of the front, thunderstorms are firing, producing heavy rains and isolated severe weather and on the backside, heavy snow with blizzard conditions thanks to winds blowing sustained at 30+ mph with gusts to 40 or 50 mph.

US: Current Temperatures

Blizzard conditions dominated Montana during through Thursday night into Friday, now these same conditions are sliding east across the Dakotas, conditions are improving back across Montana but the colder is gripping deeper.

Following a rough night ahead in the Dakotas, conditions improve tomorrow but it turns colder with lows down to zero for some tomorrow night. Once these snows slide into Minnesota they will weaken, BUT temperatures it’s the temperature drop which follows the passing of the cold front which is noteworthy. 20-40 degree drops are occurring within 12 hours over the Dakotas and Nebraska. Highs are likely to be stuck in the 30s in Minneapolis tomorrow with snow showers. Expect highs tomorrow to be stuck near 10 in parts of North Dakota

It’s an impressively cold November afternoon across Montana with current readings in the single digits to low teens for many. Following a cold night, temperatures have struggled to recover throughout today indicating the depth of cold in place.

Coldest Night Yet For Mont, Lower 48

US: Weather Today

Tonight will be by far the coldest night yet for Montana and the lower 48. With clearing skies and snow cover left in the wake of the eastward exiting storm system, temperatures will plummet to record levels tonight. Expect widespread single digits. As for sheltered valleys or basins which are covered beneath a reflective white blanket, lows may plunge to -20F across parts of Montana and Wyoming. There is certainly a good and cold base left behind from today’s single digit highs left behind from today across the northwest of Montana for a frigid night to come.

70 degrees for Philadelphia Monday?

As the ridge gets pushes east with the trough, temperatures are on the rise with upper 50s for the I-95 today, low 60s tomorrow and upper 60s to near 70 Monday. I believe we may see a 70 get as far north as Trenton.
