TUES 6 NOV: UK & IRELAND REGIONAL FORECAST

Scotland

Throughout this morning we saw the arrival of milder air following a cold, frosty and icy first part of the night. With the return of milder air, also came a lot of cloud, drizzle and a stiff westerly breeze and while today remain overcast with light and patchy rain, the milder feel was tempered by the wind keeping the 10-12C air feeling chilly.

Through tonight and a stubborn area of rain stuck over the NW Highlands will creep south but it will break up as it does so. Throughout the country, expect a largely cloudy, perhaps misty and murky sort of night with light and patchy drizzle. Lows no lower than 8 or 9C. Winds will be fresh throughout tonight out of the west, a mild direction.

Into Wednesday and another batch of rain will spread in from the northwest thanks to the presence of a cold front. This rain could be persistent and at times heavy, always that bit drier and less windy in the east where there is shelter. Like today, plenty of cloud with rain turning lighter and patchier into the afternoon, winds remain fresh to strong out of the west with highs between 10-12C.

England

Following a cold start throughout England with a widespread frost and lows of -2 to -4C widely, the milder air worked south from Scotland and into the North of England just before dawn and as today has worn on the milder air has clipped away at the cold, dense air which has been slow to warm through today for areas south of Manchester.

Through this evening, light and patchy rain which will linger over parts of East Anglia and perhaps the Southeast should clear and for most, while fairly cloudy, it should be dry. Winds will remain fresh out of the west and so the combo of cloud and the breeze will make for a significantly milder night for all compared to last night. Most fall no lower than 6-8C tonight. Cooler where skies are clearer in parts of the sheltered east.

Through tomorrow and while it’s a repeat performance from Carlisle to Manchester with plenty of cloud, a fresh west wind and highs of 10-11C, in the South, where it only hit 8-9C this afternoon, should notch up to around 10, perhaps 11C tomorrow afternoon. Clouds may break through the afternoon.

Wales

Following a cold start throughout Wales, today has seen the arrival of milder, Atlantic air with the advance of cloud, a westerly wind and rain. This will be the rule tonight with temperatures dropping no lower than 7-8C.

Tomorrow will be similar to today with highs rising to between 10-12C with a fresh to strong west wind, strongest always along the Irish Sea coast. Expect a lot of cloud with best chance of any brightness in the east where there’s shelter. Patchy rain could affect anywhere throughout the day.

Northern Ireland

Like we’ve seen throughout Scotland and much of northern and central England, milder air has returned to Northern Ireland along with cloud, drizzle and a stiff west wind. This will be the case through tonight and tomorrow with a lot of cloud, patchy light rain or drizzle and lows no lower than 7 or 8C. Expect highs to return to similar levels from today of 10-12C.

Ireland

Following recent cold days and frosty night, the milder, Atlantic regime has returned to Ireland’s north and central parts but the chilly air lingered across southern parts of the country today but this will finally get chipped away tonight. With the return of milder, Atlantic air comes plenty of cloud and drizzle along with a fresh west wind, strong along the Atlantic coast.

Tonight will be mild, cloudy with plenty of light and patchy rain. Lows only down to 8C for many. Tomorrow will be like today and tonight, lots of cloud, drizzle and a west wind. Highs 10-12C.
