Much Cooler For East While Texas To Kansas Heat Intensifies Following Record 111°F At Wichita, Kansas Today!

If you thought today was hot with widespread 105° to 110° heat, it looks like things are about to grow even hotter from central Texas to north Kansas in coming days as the upper ridge intensifies overhead.

Such cities as Wichita Falls, TX, Oklahoma City, OK and Wichita, KS to name just 3, may surpass 110°, 2-3 out of the next 6 afternoons. Wichita topped 111° this afternoon and with the all-time record of 114°, this city, familiar with heat, may push that.

As you can see from the above graphic courtesy of The Weather Channel, the position of the upper ridge has allowed a trough to drop down over the Northeastern US and this is allowing low’s to bring unsettled and much cooler weather with highs prodominantly in the upper 70s to low 80s from Burlington all the way down to Washington DC throughout the upcoming week.

Even out West, heights are relatively low and so the heat is tempered with below normal over California as has been the case throughout this summer.
