SNOW WARNING: During Sunday night as temps drop towards freezing and showers which push into western areas, these have a high chance of falling as snow even to low levels. Two Feet of Lake-Effect Snow on the Way
ACCUWEATHER.COM

By Alex Sosnowski

Ready for 2 feet of snow? Some downwind areas of the Great Lakes are in for just that as the coldest air of the season so far comes calling during the first days of the neMZC; opExc=mvt-no; blogger_TID=6 setup that can deliver several inches of snow per hour and white-out conditions, where bands of snow persist with strong winds.
The action of arctic air pouring over the relatively warm, open waters of the Great Lakes will unleash a very impressive lake-effect snow event progressing from northwest to southeast into Tuesday. Read more!

Major Arctic plunge to sweep through Mongolia, China, Koreas & Japan starting Thursday into next week

During this week, as a piece of the polar vortex appears to split away from the pole and drop into Asia, expanding as it does so, it looks like a severe period of snowstorms will sweep southwards along a potent, very sharp cold front which will dive into the mid-latitudes of China across the Koreas and into Japan through late this week and into next. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear reports of massive snowfalls, perhaps record-breakers or the worst some areas have seen in years. The other concern is the cold that follows! While later THIS WEEK, snowstorms and blizzards will be the headline grabber, it’s NEXT WEEK which may feature reports of potentially savage cold which drops through Mongolia, China, North and South Korea and into Japan.

Below are the charts of the European model for Asia later this week. Notice how the cold appears, expands and moves southeastwards.
