Northern Europe has been battered by violent Atlantic storms, more is to come with next one striking Scotland tomorrow
Next Atlantic storm will cross to the north of Scotland tomorrow bringing strong to severe gales across the north coast of Northern Ireland (including W, NW Rep of Ire) central and southern Scotland eventually impacting Denmark & southern Scandinavia.. See #UK-EUROPE for details.
Christmas Day into Boxing Day saw a fierce Atlantic depression cross Scotland bringing strong gales to the populated heart of the Central Belt but violent winds hit further north over the far northern mainland and especially up across Orkney and Shetland.
This storm continued a destructive path all the way across Norway, Sweden, Finland and even into the Baltics nations bringing widespread damage and power loss.
UPPER PATTERN IS EXTREMELY ENERGETIC, HELPED BY HUGE THERMAL CONTRAST BETWEEN GREENLAND-AZORES
Blame a large temperature contrast between Greenland-Arctic Norway with the Azores-Iberia for an unusually powerful jet stream and rapid deepening of lows.
