>I took a walk up Falkland hill today. The snowpack on Falkland hill has been well preserved due to colder temperatures. Snow depths are in the region of one to two foot. At sea level here in Kirkcaldy, the rain produced thaw conditions which have since been replaced by below freezing temps. The snow is more like an ice pack. The snow depth is in the region of one inch or two. This compared to a peak depth of 4 to 5 inches. Most of inland Fife is covered in a 6 + inch coating of snow. Snow fell in Edinburgh for much of today. In Leuchars, it fell to a chilly – 9 degrees C yesterday. That's what I call cold.
This evening, I expect it to be milder, perhaps with a few snow showers peppering the Fife landscape, further adding to the Kingdom-wide snow cover. I expect coastal thaw conditions to prevail for a few days to come, and the mercury will proceed to fall to depths not seen here before. Records have already been set in the likes of Edinburgh. I expect good ice skating conditions on Lochs in Fife.
