>TOPCLIFFE BOTTOMS OUT AT -14.1C or 7 degrees.

Topcliffe as of 9am this morning was sitting at a cold -13.1C or 8 degrees F. With a ESE wind at only 6mph, it feels more like -19C or -2F there… That’s a decent cold morning there. Again, thanks to a good snow cover and clear skies, those temperatures can really plummet, I expect more numbers in this territory throughout this week, some highland Glens and even lowland areas are very likely to get below -10C in this run up week to Christmas. Could we see one of the traditional cold spots drop to -20C this week?? A high even of -10C??..

Here at the house it got down to 21 degrees during the night and the temperaure did jump up and down a little before falling to the low. As clouds rolled in sometime after 5am, It was already up to 26 degrees just after 6 this morning. We have recieved another quarter inch or so of snow as a band moved through around 8am this morning, periodic snow showers will cross the area over the next 1-2 days with some areas likely collecting a further 2-4 inches with a chance of more heavier snow on Tuesday. Numbers for Glasgow are calling for 1 to 2 degrees above freezing for highs and lows down to around -3C or 27 throughout this week ahead, however I believe with snow on the ground and not really warm enough air to melt the snow, those numbers are too warm. Days might sit more at the freezing mark especially more rural areas where there is more snow than say the city center’s. Any clearing skies at night will force the numbers to fall through the 20s. A night that stays clear for even just a few hours will likely creep into the teens because even with cloudy skies, Temperatures are noticably cooling after dark. With snow showers and some heavy through at least Tuesday, the cold air may stay relatively milder as clouds will hold up the numbers, but perhaps later on in the week we have a better chance at more sunshine, highs to stay in the 20s and lows that manage to plummet to predicted lower levels.

Many places dropped under -5C, here are a few of the coldest places as of 9am.

Topcliffe, Yorkshire -13C
Carlisle, Cumbria -7C
Dishforth, Yorkshire -10C
Cottesmore -7C
Holbeach -7C
