>Todays Extremes here at my house
High 35 degrees (1.08pm) Low 21 degrees 7.41am)
RAIN/SNOW: Heavy rain which rapidly turned to heavy snow
Snowcover: Coating by 3pm
A day which started off as the coldest morning of the season with clear skies and severe frost. Became cloudy and then by early afternoon skies darkened from the north and a band of heavy rain pushed into the Glasgow area. About a half hour after the heavy, persistent rains moved in, a remarkably rapid transition from heavy rain to snow occured, all but covering the ground in white in about 10 mins. Colder air pushed in as the band of snow pushed south and skies cleared. Strong northeast winds made it feel closer to 16 degrees around 4pm this afternoon. A coating of snow and clear skies as well as lighter winds tonight have pushing temperatures into the low 20s as early as 7pm and is heading towards a colder level through the early hours of tomorrow than achieved this morning.. Highs tomorrow likely to hit around 35 degrees like today as heavy snow is expected to hit tomorrow early on, further deepening the snow cover.

    >With a UK wide blanket of snow, the temp dipped to – 5.7 C in clear skies. That's record breaking cold for December 2009 in Lochgelly. I am just waiting on the Loch freezing over for the second year on the trot. Could it happen?

    >stay warm. It's going to become colder now that we have a nive white blanket covering much of the country, more snow is likely.. some areas may enjoy a brilliantly white christmas

    >Our temperature here in Lochgelly is sitting at a cool -5.5 degrees C this evening. The last time it was this cold was back on the 30th of November 2008 when it bottomed out at – 5.3 degrees C. I think we could hit somewhere in the region of – 10 degrees C in the early morning. I will keep you posted. It's going to be a long night ahead. I have a flask of hot soup on standby.
