Photos taken by Mark Vogan from the house here in Lennoxtown with Campsie Hills in the background at around 3pm this afternoon.

It’s been quite the day for weather, trials and tribulations. After a night under clear, calm skies and severe frost which formed fast, we hit a new low for the season with 21 degrees here at my house, it was a tough morning as my truck’s battery went dead, the switches for my tail lift froze up and when returning back to a frozen Port Dundas depot where back at home in Lennoxtown it was still only 25 degrees as of 9.30am. The power wash for the truck was also frozen up and ice lay 2 inches thick beside it, so treacherous was not the word. It’s becoming a classic winter scene as a darkening sky crossed over the hills on the northern horizon (Campshires which my house sits at the foot of) which hit Glasgow with heavy rain, it was a very cold hard as it must have only been around 35 degrees. To the north and northeast, apparently there was a “white out” in Stirling.. The heavy, cold rain all of a sudeen turned to heavy, blowing snow turning the ground white within minutes. I can’t remember ever seeing heavy rain turn to heavy snow in literally 30 seconds!! The entire area recieved a rapid coating within about 5-10 minutes..

It’s now currently 28 degrees as of 4.22pm with a fresh northeast wind making it feel closer to 16 degrees, down from a high of 35 degrees recorded at 1.08pm. The heavy snow band pushed north to south across Scotland and now is progressing south through the north of England.. I am expecting a low that could surpass this mornings low and may even creep into the upper teens, now that snow, albeit thin is on the ground and can reflect and return incoming heat back to space much more effectively than bare ground can. Just think, this morning’s 21 degree-low was with bare ground. Had snow been on the ground, I would have put that morning low probably at 15 degrees, maybe even lower. Our wind chill later tonight may drop into the upper single digits late tonight and through the early hours of tomorrow morning but winds may let up some later, therefore with that and clear skies, we are almost deffinately heading for teens tonight. You know you have an Arctic air mass when you’ve got cloud cover, wind and your temps are still falling..

More later.
Thanks for reading.
