As sub-tropical air lifts north, so arctic air comes down on the other side!

What a difference 24 hours makes here in Scotland and particularly for the central Highlands. It was a heavy coat walk with my daughter Holly to the nursery for 8am yesterday morning. This morning I could have gotten away with a t-shirt!

Scotland’s December record of 18.3C set back in 1948 at Achnashellach is likely to remain standing.

However, Northern Ireland may have already tied if not broken their December record. The December record stands at 16C set back in 1984 at Murlough and Eglinton, Londonderry appears to be sitting on the figure as of this writing.

Here’s the reason why we’re seeing night time minimums WARMER than daytime averages for Dec 7.
