Heat Flexing And Shifting Position Next Week, Staying Cool Where Wet!

Written by on June 20, 2015 in Spring 2015, Summer 2015, United States of America with 0 Comments

Scorching weekend for the Deserts of the Southwest and early next week for the Southeast once again. Yesterday topped 111 degrees in Las Vegas which made for the highest reading of the year to date. Phoenix topped out at 113, down 2 from the previous day’s 115!

The SW ridge peaks in strength over the weekend before expanding both north, forcing the hottest air to date up into the Pacific Northwest (90s in the coastal plain/100s east of the mountains) as well as joining forces with the SE ridge where the heats will crank once again over North Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas early next week.

Southwest heat weakens some into next week but it remains HOT!

With the heat of the air and near 85-degree waters against the shore, expect little heat relief overnight. Lows may hold in the 80s for such cities as Savannah, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Wilmington early next week.

Note in the below 500mb height chart off the GFS how the 594 line expands east from SW to SE by 96 hours.

Looks like the SW and SE ridging weakens mid to late next week while the focus turns to the Pacific Northwest according to the CFSv2 week 1-2.

By week 3-4 it shows the PNW ridge hanging on but also re-pops the SE ridge again. Staying cool for a large swath of the nation between the Rockies and Appalachians.
