Since yesterday’s post, NHC has upped the chance of 91L to 80% as it continues to slowly organise over the warm Gulf of Mexico. It’s likely to become Tropical Storm Bill and the seasons 2nd named storm prior to landfall sometime overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
It’s biggest threat remains flash flooding.
Not just Texas!

The system once inland, poses a major flood threat all the way up through the Mississippi Valley across the Ohio Valley and into the Appalachians as it rides around a powerful upper ridge centred over the Southeast that’s responsible for producing dangerous heat from DC to north Florida.
You can clearly see Bill-to-be circling the western and northern periphery of the SE hot dome.
Here’s the surface chart.
Hottest weather in 3-5 years for the coastal plain of the Southeast!
It’s not just the Southeast. First 110s of the season headed for Phoenix and Las Vegas this week!
Projected highs for Phoenix as per NWS.
and Vegas and rest of Southwest…
Note the 127 in Death Valley! Yep, summer is back!
