Under the blanket of heavy rain yesterday, it felt more like March with temps even at 3pm stuck at just 6-8C over many parts of Scotland. You could even see your breath in the cold rain. That shouldn’t be the case at this time of year nor should there be mention of snow and that’s what we’re likely to see over the tops of the Highlands in the coming days.

Yes, snow is possible as not one but two, even three Atlantic lows swing in bringing cold air from Greenland to end May and open June.
June may open with heavy and persistent rain accompanied by gales for some.
Check out the beast from the 500mb height anomaly perspective!
5-day mean 2m temps rather cool compared to normal.
A fair amount of rain is expected through the next 7 days.
In yesterday’s post I showed the warmth seen by the models towards the end of June’s opening week. Notice in the below GFS meteogram for the CENTRAL HIGHLANDS that temps struggle to climb above 10C through the first 8 days with night lows dipping to freezing but in the 9-15 day we see it approach 70F or 21F. After all, it will be June by then for goodness sakes.
