The NWS Boston tweeted that as of 1am, with an additional 0.3″ of fresh snow, Boston has officially topped 100″ for the season and edging close to the all-time record of 107.6 set in 1995-96. Blue Hill Observatory located in Milton, MA is also approaching their all-time record. They’ve tallied 136.9″ so far this season and only need to reach 143.4″ to tie the record.

Snow Is Blanketing The Deep South

Instead of it being the Northeast, the focus of heavy snowfall is now over the Deep South with an impressive 4-8″, locally 12″ swath from North Mississippi across Alabama and Georgia including the Atlanta metro into the Carolinas.

Reports of thundersnow as well as 7-8″ already on the ground.

Quite the up and down temp contrasts from 24 hours ago. Yep, it’s cooler where it’s snow in the South just now but notice the warming further north over the ‘icebox’ that is the Northeast! Nearly 20 degrees warmer up in Maine but go west and here comes the next charge of brutal cold into the N Rockies and Plains.
