I spoke yesterday about ‘summer heat’ returning to Western Europe including the UK but I want to touch on the thunderstorm risk today.
While the Azores low helps draw Africa heat our way, it will also push energy our way too and that means increased instability and with heat and added humidity come an increased risk of thunderstorms, something we’ve not seen since late July.
Both ECMWF and GFS show this more unsettled, thundery setup late week and we may even get a system pushing up this weekend which brings a soaking rain before more ridging returns early next week.
Here’s the ECMWF surface at 54 hrs and note the dark greens appearing over southern UK!

CAPE values climb Thursday afternoon, esp France up into the UK.
Very warm, humid air will help pop thunderstorms which bring local downpours and lightning.
Looks like we maintain the somewhat ‘unsettled’ theme with showers and local downpours into0 the weekend before the return of summer next week.
No video today due to tight family schedule.
