Christobal To Become North Atlantic Tempest & Bring Back Summer To UK!

Written by on August 28, 2014 in Rest of Europe, United Kingdom & Ireland with 0 Comments

While the UK ‘should’ enjoy sharply warming temperatures Sunday, Monday, it’s Iceland and mariners of the North Atlantic which should worry about what the models are printing out.

Currently Hurricane Christobal is a 985mb, 80 mph Cat 1 Hurricane but while she weakens as a TROPICAL entity, she will undergo the transition to extra tropical and with a very intense jet stream (unusually powerful for August) fuelled by a large thermal contrast, the system looks set to deepen into a potentially dangerous sub-968mb ‘weather bomb’ near Iceland.

Tremendous surge of ‘tropical energy’ lifting north into the mid-latitudes will fuel an enhanced jet stream and cyclogenesis.

The ECMWF sees a 150-160knot jet driving the intensification and deepening of this system!

Models have this becoming a 968mb wind and wave machine.

70-80knot winds on south side of centre at 5,000ft (below). If the system holds and gets close enough to Iceland, we’re likely talking hurricane-force winds on exposed sections of the south coast and particularly over higher ground.

Wave heights are projected to top 34ft but those monsters should stay out at sea.

Summer Is Returning For First 10 Days Of September!

As highlighted several times over, summer returns in the wake of this system to Western Europe.

Check out the day 3-10 off the ECMWF! Looking terrific!

Warmer than normal temps as a result!
