Well it continues to snow this evening across the rather snowy Chicago area this evening with 10.9 inches now down at at Midway and 8.9 inches at O’Hare, Chicago’s official recording station. According to WGN-TV’s Tom Skilling, it’s been snowing more or less continuous for the past 43 hours and a further inch or so is likely.
Much of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio’s north is digging out from anywhere from 2-3 to as much as 12-14 inches of snow and thankfully for them, that snow is tapering, but what’s coming, well it could be the coldest air in 20+ years and potentially ALL-TIME record challenging for some.
As for the finale of this two part snow event, well the heavy stuff is now taking center stage from DC all the way to New England where the infusion of energy between that Midwest disturbance and an offshore low, will really crank snow, wind and produce blizzard conditions tonight into tomorrow. What will really help with the forecasted ‘big totals’ from this snowstorm will be the really cold air being pulled into the entire Northeast.
Upwards of a foot is possible across the Greater NYC, Hartford and Boston region while a decent half foot is possible down into Philadelphia and perhaps 2-4 inches down as far as DC.
As you can see it’s snowing pretty good all the way south through Baltimore and DC.
Here’s predicted snow totals when all’s said and done later Friday according to AccuWeather.
