Heat To Dominate West While Midwest, East Recieves Cooldown, Lots Of Rain Over Next 7-10 Days

The next 7-10 days will see the heat dominate the West with strong high pressure firmly established and centered over the Great Basin. This heat will expand up into the Northern Rockies as well as intensify over the Deserts by late week with 110s easily returning to both Las Vegas and Phoenix. Even Montana may see a few days in the 100s while near 100 extends beyond the border up into Western Canada.

While this heat bakes the West, we’re going to see a decent cool shot firstly drop into the Upper Midwest, then Great Lakes and eventually the Northeast all the way into the Southeast by late this week. We’ve already seen the cooldown affect Minneapolis with a high down to just 78 yesterday. This ends the mighty, record tying 39 day stretch of 80 or higher.

As you can see from the latest QPF model looking at precip over the next 6 days, there is a plenty of rain expected from New Englanbd all the way to the Gulf Coast. Notice just how much rain falls in the Southeast!

The below charts of the ECMWF show the western ridge and eastern trough.
