>My house recieved a power cut during the overnight hours, my lights are flickering as I type this just now…. Take extra care whilst outdoors tonight…

Snow getting carried horizontally in the gale-force east winds at Mills Dairy, near Largs, Ayrshire

Mills Dairy, Elev approx 750ft, 4 miles east of Largs, Ayrshire

Appraoching the Newton Mearns, Eaglesham cut off, Near Fenwick Moor (This morning at around 9.40am)

As winter’s strongest storm of the season roars with fury and one, which I have dubbed the “Storm of the Season” it illustrates rudly that despite it being March 30th, Winter 2009-10 isn’t giving up without a fight, in fact Old Man Winter is getting pulled away by the “Changing of the Season” Kicking and Screaming…. and producing quite a show for anyone who loves a good storm!!

NATIONWIDE GALES AND EVEN SOME HURRICANE FORCE GUSTS, ROAR ACROSS SCOTLAND today bringing problems to pretty much everyone as severe storm-force winds harness rain, sleet and snow, making it feel and look more like late December than late March…

Power cuts, tree damage, TV aerial-damage, bins hurtling down windtunnel-like streets and treacherous driving conditions are making for winter’s final throws a tough and tiring end game to a winter not witnessed in this country since 62-63.

From plain old rain at many low lying areas mixed with sleet and snow at times brought flooding, blinding horizontal rain and strong gale-force winds which made for the primary hazards, whilst even the slightest rise in elevation and you could find yourself driving in near blizzard conditions.
I found myself at Millas Dairy, at an elevation of roughly 750 feet, just 4 steep miles inland from the seaside town of Largs, Ayrshire with blinding snow and ferocious conditions for unloading milk which needed to be down outside in the thick of the worst conditions I have witnessed the entire winter as the power was out. My feet were soaked right through as though it was 4 inch deep snow, it was also 4 inch deep water, not pleasant when a gale is blowing horizontal, stinging snow in your face at 50 mph and windchills are well below freezing.
I drove up across Fenwick Moor (Ayrshire) this morning only to find severe winds and snow lying 2-4 inches dee. Once I got across to the high ground just east of Largs, roughly 750 feet, 4 inches of slushy, wet snow lay and there was a decent amount of drifting as powerful east winds raged like a hurricane, without any let up between gusts!

WORST OF THE CONDITIONS TONIGHT!!

Many areas across the north and central part of Scotland have endured blizzard-like conditions and tonight, conditions are expected to worsen as a fresh band of heavy snow is pushing south to north with even the low elevations expected to see upwards of a covering to as much as a few inches by morning. The high ground of North Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and across the Highlands may see upwards of a foot to 2 feet overnight tonight, along with sevre gales which will create treacherous ti life-threatening travel conditions…. Think twice before venturing onto higher routes through tonight!!
Thanks for reading.

    >I was driving from the Pentlands (some of the BIGGEST mountains in Edinburgh) to the great Kingdom. However, a blizzard did arrive to ENGULF!!!!! Fife and Lothian. However, IT quickly MELTED, however the HILLS are STILL covered in SNOW.
I heard that THE BIGGEST SNOWDRIFT OF the winter brought a train to a hault near CARbrigde. I reckon the passengers were lucky not to have froze to their seats. THE rescue train carrying blankets also getting stuck in SCOTLANDS BIGGEST EVER SNOW DRIFT. BRING ON THE ICE AGE and REDUCE THE FUEL PRICES! WE NEED TO WASTE OUR NATURAL RESOURCES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    >I drove through Ardrossan (West Coast) and snow was on the ground and snow was falling, this is not confined to inland areas… Where are you anyway?

    >if this is the hurricane force winds that you are talking about, I don't see what the fuss is with these hurricanes. As for snow? I drove 50 miles today through Scotland without sign of snow. It's confined to inland and on the hills. It's no biggy Mark.
