>It’s now down 18 degrees off yesterday at 1.12pm. Right now it’s currently at 29 degrees with some fog out there so going to have a little scraping this morning for the first time since our Arctic air pulled outta here. This morning is a classic example of a mild air dry/calm pocket in between weather systems. It’s a mini high pressure cell which since we’re above the jet stream, air masses are warmer but since days enjoy almost balmy feels, nights tend to drop off below freezing if it’s dry, clear and calm enough and that is the case this morning. We could drop off to a nice 20-degree departure from yesterday if fog dosn’t thicken up.

I am wanting to also point out that we are likely to once again see some snow. Amazingly this is a winter that tends to want to see snow. I mean you could buy snow here for several winters, this year it just seems to wanna snow. Even during a mild period, it still has snow and even below freezing nights. Recent years when it’s been mild around here, it’s been up into the 50s, pouring with rain and blowing a gale. Nights have regularly struggled to get below 50 at night with canstant pounding of strong Atlantic lows.

This winter it’s a lot sunnier, stable and tends to want to be colder. Yesterday’s 47 degree high here was warm, but on the grander look back of previous warm winters. 47 may have been a cooler day perhaps back in January 2007 when frost, what was frost back during that month?

Also interesting folks and worth pointing out, computer modeling appears to be drawing the cold air back down over us at the end of January AS I FORECASTED! More snow, below freezing days and nights in the teens are returning within the next few weeks. How cold we get around here really depends of two things, 1) how much snow we can get back on the ground, perhaps more than what we’ve already seen in one foul swoop rather than pesky and persistent 1″ snows and 2) whether we can pull the core of cold close to our shores like we saw during the first 10 days of the month. I do believe it’s very possible we see a mirror of this month. It could equally as chilly as when it begun.

California and New England seeing storminess. New England major snows are hammering them whilst a mammoth storm is lashing the California coast. I shall discuss what’s going on there across the pond later this afternoon all being well.

Thanks for reading.
