Oho To Slam British Columbia/Alaska While Summer Heat Returns To West, First Cold Shot For East 15-20th?

The Pacific tropical season has been a highly active one, largely thanks to the on going strong El Nino. Between Thursday and Saturday, former hurricane Oho is tracking NE over the east Pacific and looks set to slam into the British Columbia/Alaska coast bringing potentially damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Meanwhile further south, heat resurges from Southern California to Montana as the ridge pumps in response to the system striking BC.

While cool and showery with hefty thunderstorms over the Four Corners in recent days thanks to an upper low swinging through. This in fact drifts SW towards the Baja in the next few days while heights rise significantly overtop bringing back the return of summer heat to California and West late week and over the Plains early next week.

As heights start to build up into western Canada and Alaska and both NAO and AO turn negative, a major cool shots is on the charts between 15-20th as a series of fronts are set to dive down through the Great Lakes and East over the next 10 days or so.

You can see the still progressive nature of this pattern but note the pulsing of warmth in the East start to wane and much more significant cool diving into the East towards day 10-15.

Reinforcing the cool in the East between the 15-25th may be a recurving west pacific typhoon.
