Persistent heavy rains, thunderstorms and of course wet ground as a result has led to an unusually cool open to July for Chicago and surrounding Midwest locales. In fact July 2015’s opening 8 days has been coolest in 31 years with 3 highs no better than 67 degrees. That’s the ‘average’ for May 5 and October 5.

The cool trend appears to flip the other way as we head for the weekend as a strong upper ridge building over the Southern Plains lifts north.

Plot for O’Hare Intl Airport Sat-Sun. First back to back weekend 90s since August 2012.

For the first time in a few months, it looks like Texas is the driest region in the US next 10 days. A fair amount of rain west-north-east of the heat core with ‘ring of fire’ type setup. The Southwest monsoon looks ready to fire up.
