Antarctica Sets All-Time Sea Ice Record

While arctic sea ice extent has been decreasing over the last 15+ years, the Antarctic has been increasing, particularly in recent years.

As of Sunday morning, a new all-time record for areal coverage of sea ice surrounding the continent of Antarctica. According to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign / Cryosphere Today, 2.074 million square kilometres covers and circles the continent. That’s the most ever recorded.

Interestingly, according to the popular website ‘Watts Up With That’, this beats the previous record which was 1.840 million square kilometres set only back on December 20, 2007. Ironically but by no means a coincidence, that was the same year that the arctic set a new record (apparently) for lowest sea ice extent. Ocean and atmosphere’s balancing act?

Another thing your unlikely to hear in media or by agenda driven governments is that GLOBAL sea ice as of Sunday (June 29th) stands 1.005 million square kilometres above average.
