As of 5pm CT, Chicago’s official recording station at O’Hare Intl Airport has recieved 7 inches of snow now, comfortably breaking a daily record and also making this the biggest snow event for the city since the infamous Groundhog Day Blizzard back in 2011 which dumped an incredible 21.2 inches, stranding motorists on Lake Shore Dr.
Nearby Belvidere has topped 8.8 inches and that was a few hours ago so they’ve likely a good deal more now and the snows continue falling throughout the city and much of northern Illinois, especially south and southeast of the city. According to WGN-TV’s Tom Skilling, if an additional 3 inches falls on top of the 7, that would the season’s snow total in Chicago to normal. Amazing given the incredibly slow start and really up until early February, a snowless winter.

As you can see from the current radar shot as of this writing, the snows continue to fall throughout the Chicago area and this could well pile up as much as 10-12 inches of snow on the region when all is said and done.

Snow rates are increasing now across northern and central Indiana. Indianapolis could pick up as much as 8 inches from this.
