It’s been another dry and for eastern and southern parts, sunny day! Highs topped out at between 7-9C and feeling not bad at all with the light wind and strengthening March sunshine. Change is afoot come tonight as cloud gradually builds and so an early frost is likely to lift, where skies hold clear, rural lows may dip to -2. By dawn, the southwest may see some light and patchy rain develop as a weather system pushes in. Wednesday is looking largely dry, especially in eastern areas while Dumfries and Galloway could see light rain. An easterly breeze blowing in off the cold waters of the North Sea tomorrow will make it feel much cooler. Highs 5-7C, cooler in the raw wind.

A greater chance of rain comes on Thursday as another front works in from the southwest.

England

It has been a warmer than expected day across parts of England with highs soaring to at least 17C in Gravesend, Kent, this is a steep increase following a sub-freezing overnight. In stark contrast to the positively balmy temps in the South, where fog has lingered all day across areas east of the Pennines, temps for some, have failed to get above 2C.

Cloud increases tonight and so it won’t be as cold as last night. A frontal system pushing up from the southwest will bring rain to Devon and Cornwall and this extends up through the west Midlands during Wednesday. Light and patchy rain should impact most western parts tomorrow, staying drier in the east. Highs tomorrow 4-11C.

It turns wetter on Thursday.

Wales

It’s been a stunning and warm March day with temps surpassing 17.5C at Trawsgoed this afternoon. This is a steep diurnal fluctuation following a cold, frosty morning. Chance arrives tonight as clouds increase and so light rain or drizzle with a fresh breeze will greet many to start Wednesday. Wednesday will be a much cooler, cloudier and damp day with highs a good 4-7C off today’s values.

A wetter batch of weather is expected to push in from the south come Thursday.

Northern Ireland

Like across much of the UK mainland, it’s been a bright and sunny day across most of Northern Ireland with a nice warm feel to the sunshine. Tonight will see an early frost for some under clear skies but as the night wears on, a bank of cloud, mist and light or patchy rain will push up from the Republic, this sets the stage for a very different day Wednesday. Wednesday will be generally cloudy with light or patchy rain, highs down on today at 5-7C with a freshening breeze.

A potentially wetter day comes Thursday as the next system rolls up from the south.

Ireland

After a largely decent morning and early afternoon, clouds are pushing up from the south and this will set the stage for a cloudy, misty and damp night for many parts of Ireland. Lows well up on recent nights at 2-5C. Wednesday and Thursday will see cloud along with showers at times.
