Two Systems To Bring Snow To Northeast Next 7 Days

Written by on January 21, 2013 in North and South America, United States of America with 0 Comments

Two systems this week will bring a covering of snow, the first coats or covers the Upper and Lower Midwest as well as Northeast during Monday and the other, more significant system is being watched closely for later Thursday. A clipper type system riding the powerful northwest flow across the Great Lakes and into the Northeast will bring a widespread coating to an inch of snow Monday to the Northeast including the I-95 corridor. Expect locally 2-4 inch totals over southern New England thanks to the disturbance coupled with very cold 850 temps.

While the coldest air in a few years follows Monday’s clipper and holds the entire Northeast below freezing with even the Big Cities staying in the low 20s Tuesday, another system follows and this may turn out to be a sizeable snow event for the Mid-Atlantic and southern Northeast Thursday-Friday.

So, while there is a heck of a cold shot coming down over the next several days, there is also snow and this may whiten pretty much the entire Northeast all the way to DC or even further south by Friday. The snows which come tomorrow will be enough to help perhaps knock a degree or two off the temperatures over the next few days as winds howl out of the NW and force the arctic air in. Watch out as nighttime lows get to 30 below over Northern Maine, near zero across the interior Northeast, low teens for the Big Cities from DC to NYC, perhaps near 0 in Boston on Tues night.
