Scotland
The damp and blustery theme will continue into this evening and it’s all thanks to a deep Icelandic low positioned to our north. Through tonight, yet more heavy, thundery showers will pile in on the stiff southwest wind which will touch gale-force through the western isles, fresh to strong across the rest of the country for the first part of the night but these winds ease as we progress through the overnight, clearer skies in the east and particularly the Borders, may allow frost to form. In the west and north the showers continue with lows dipping less but low enough that we could see sleet mixed with rain down towards 1,000ft by early Saturday morning as winds begin to veer northwesterly. Lows widely down to a somewhat chillier 3-5C.
Into your Saturday and it’s all about those showers in the west and north again, staying drier and brighter in the east. Winds are lighter but cooler as they blow out of the northwest on the backside of the low. Highs 9-11C.
Saturday night looks drier with clearer skies and lighter winds as yet another small ridge builds in on the backside of the low, so expect a frost for many Sunday morning.
Sunday looks drier, brighter and somewhat more settled.
England
Through your Friday, it’s been a rather gloomy and wet old day from the Southwest extending northeast through the west Midlands all the way to Cumbria, all thanks to a cold front which has been slowing as it pushes southeast. Ahead of the front it’s been dry but closuy with some brighter or sunny spells down nearer London and Kent. This front will slowly drop southeast and should spread rain into Greater London during the second part of night. These rains may turn heavier as it meets a weaker front draped along the channel coast. Light wind in the south and cooler air means, mist and murk as well as the rain will be a feature. Lows drop to 5 or 6C tonight, perhaps down to 3 or 4C in some rural areas, here, where it’s dry and there are glimmers of clearer sky, watch for very dense fog, perhaps a touch of frost.
Through Saturday, look for a damp day for London and the Southeast, drier to the north and west but with brighter skies, comes heavy showers which could bring thunder and hail. You’ll want to have a jacket handy if walking around the shops as a fresh northwest breeze will feel cold, highs of only 8-9C.
Clearer skies and lighter winds means a frost for many rural areas by Sunday morning.
During the day Sunday, there will be plenty of cool sunshine, highs of 8-9C, winds will be lighter.
Wales
This afternoon and evening is a wet and blustery one throughout the country but this band should begin to clear during the overnight and following in behind will be a scattering of showers but in the sheltered east, watch for dense mist and fog forming with even a chance of light frost. Lows 4-7C.
Through Saturday and a much better day with decent sunny spells, winds will be lighter, but fresh along the coast with showers blowing in off the Irish Sea. Slightly cooler tomorrow at 8-10C.
Saturday night should see less showers, lighter winds and with clearer skies, comes an increased chance of more widespread mist, fog and patchy rural frost.
Sunday’s looking to be the best day of the week with decent sunshine, less showers, highs holding at around average, 9-10C.
Northern Ireland
It’s a blustery, showery day throughout Ulster following a very wet morning, these showers should ease through tonight allowing mist and fog to form and lowering temperatures. We may see some patchy frost in places overnight. Some showers cannot be ruled out and so with a cooler night, watch for icy patches by morning. Lows 3-5C. Feeling nippy in the wind.
Tomorrow will be cool, breezy with passing showers but there will also be some decent spells of sunshine too. Highs of 7-9C.
Saturday night will be drier, clearer and with light winds, colder with a frost likely for many.
As for Sunday, ridging will cap the shower activity as well as the winds, so after a cold start, expect a day with plenty of sunshine, highs 9-10C.
Ireland
Sunshine and showers will be the theme through the rest of tonight and tomorrow. Tonight, while showers should continue riding the west wind, clear spells will develop and that means mist, fog and a chance of light and patchy frost, especially in sheltered east, including Dublin.
Tomorrow will see yet more showers pile in on the west to northwest breeze, these could contain hail and thunder, there will also be sunshine mixed in. Highs no better than 9C.
Tomorrow night should see a near repeat performance of tonight but there may be less showers and clearer skies, so in turn a more widespread frost is possible.
Sunday looks to be the best day of the weekend.
