After Drenching The East Coast, Is It Possible Isaac Refires Over The Northern Gulf?

Surely, not… could we actually see Isaac regenerate back over the Gulf of Mexico? Ivan did it in 2004 after taking a big loop over the continental US and this may happen again with Isaac.

If you’ve been following, Isaac’s remnant low first entered Louisiana a week ago, then headed north and took a hard right bringing wind, mostly rain and severe weather too. The Northeast will endure a second day of enhanced shower and thunderstorm activity during Wednesday but while it rains and even pours from New England to the Carolinas, this blip on weather maps is actually what was once Hurricane Isaac.

While it may rain 2-4 inches widely up and down the Eastern Seaboard within a 48 hour Tuesday-Wednesday window, it may rain twice as much over the Florida Panhandle thanks to this disturbance heading southbound towards the NE Gulf and it draws up rich tropical moisture. 6-10 inches locally is possible with this troublesome feature and what will be most interesting is what it may do over the warm Gulf of Mexico waters.

Check this out off WeatherBELL models looking out with initial, 24 and then 48 hours out!

Ok, so notice that low over northern MS in for the current time frame.

Now, check it out over the Florida panhandle at 1010mb.

By by 48 hours it’s out over the NE Gulf and yes, pressures drop to 1007. Not this won’t be a big storm but I could see it becoming a depression and likely would have a different name. This could be a bigtime rainmaker down here during the late week/weekend period down here.

It was Joe Bastardi who alluded to this idea. Interesting meteorology.
