Over the next 5 days, the hottest temperatuires will be recorded from the Deserts to southern BC and Alberta while the coolest air (amazingly it’s still near or even slightly above norm) holds on from Denver to Atlantic City. Given the type of summer this has been, you just know the relief from Plains to East Coast can’t last and certainly going by the ECMWF, the heat does look to push out into the Plains by late this week and weekend and by next week we could see mid-90s return to Chicago, Cincinnati across to DC.
Along with the next push of heat comes higher humidity as it’s more of a Bermuda high which begins to increase the humidity as well as the heat with a flow being drawn up the East Coast from off the warm waters of the Atlantic and Gulf.
While mid-90s look to be the best bet and not 100s for DC, potentially higher humidity will make it feel as bad and nights too will hold the heat in.
Potential Southeast flooding by storms
Until then, we continue to see the widespread showers and storms firing from the Mid-Atlantic down and throughout the Southeast and these are spreading out into the Plains too. Could see sizeable rain totals with this setup triggered by a stalled boundary.
Daytime heating will really bubble up the atmosphere and could spark very heavy and persistent rains which may lead to flooding even flash flooding from these storms so please be aware.
