Yesterday saw the hottest day in a couple of years at Death Valley and for the US as the high soared to 126. While it wasn’t a record, Palm Springs topped an impressive 119 but out in Las Vegas, it did hit a record at 114.

Phoenix, AZ was also hot but not as much at 112, what was impressive about yesterday there was the morning low which only fell to a toasty 91. Thing is, for this urban jungle which is becoming unnaturally hotter due to asphalt and concrete, this tied a mere daily record set back in 2010 for a record warm low. You have to go back to July 2003 for the hottest night on record in Sun Citywhich was a sweltering 96.

As of 2.05pm Death Valley is reading 119 and likely on it’s way to the mid 120s again. Salt Lake is currently 101 and may reach near 105 while Reno will top around 100. Phoenix won’t be as hot today due to the core of heat now over the Great Basin but Las Vegas should near yesterday’s mark of 114.

Tonight will like last night hold in the 90s for both Phoenix and Vegas.
