[error] A FURTHER 1-2 INCHES (LOCALLY 3″) OF RAIN IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT 24 HRS WITH THE NEXT COLD FRONT SWEEPING IN AHEAD OF THE NEXT LOW, HEAVIEST RAIN SHOULD BE FURTHER SOUTH THAN THE PREVIOUS SYSTEM BUT MORE HEAVY RAIN WILL KEEP THE FLOOD RISK HIGH ACROSS THE NORTH [/error]
Unfortunately there is no break for Scotland and Northern Ireland as rains have persisted throughout today following a very wet day Friday and overnight last night. Another band of organised, heavy rain arrives into the Southwest of England and Wales tonight and sweeps across the entire UK over the next 18 hours.
While the highest totals look to be south of Birmingham as a pose to Manchester north, a further 1 inch or more of rain in the flooded or flood risk areas will worsen an already serious situation. If you live near a river which is located in the very saturated North of England, YOU MUST PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO IT OVER THE NEXT 36 HOURS, Remember all the runoff from nearby hills takes time to travel down and into the rivers, so AFTER the rains have fallen is when things around you can change fast.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that the South remains very wet from previous heavy rains and flooding and so even across the Midlands and South, there may be issues with flooding with this next soaking system.
Rains should clear to the eastern side of England and Scotland by tomorrow afternoon and hopefully we’ll see some brightness reappear once the front pushes through. Keep in mind though that once the initial rain band has passed, warming of the lower atmosphere with the re-emergence of sunshine means increased instability and therefore thunderstorms can and likely will develop and so further heavy, torrential downpours are a destinct possibility through tomorrow afternoon.
