Canada Latest

Many parts of Ontario turn white while storms whip Atlantic & Pacific coasts!

Both coasts of Canada are under the gun of heavy rain, strong, gusty winds and heavy snow.

While the eastern storm is mild directly over the maritimes where some spots are up to at least 17C just now, snow has been breaking out and producing the first significant falls across many parts of Ontario thanks to cold air being pulled down on the backside of this wind and rain machine over the Maritimes.

On the British Columbia side of the country, heavy rain at low levels, heavy snows in the mountains and strong winds are making their presence felt. In between these areas of disturbed weather, it’s relatively calm.

Becoming less likely Britain will see the ‘much anticipated cold spell’ many thought would happen as NAO looks more and more likely to remain neutral

The above map is the very latest European run for Mon 21st, note the trough remains over the N. Atlantic, ridge over western Europe, trough the east

Some related Facebook postings from this morning:

“Once the atmosphere matures into a winter state im waiting for an eastward migrating cold pool over US and a westward migrating cold pool over Europe.”

“Period between Nov 15 – December 15 i believe is key for building of both Arctic sea ice and air. How much it intensifies over next 4 wks will determine the severity of our cold down across the mid-latitudes of the hemisphere”.

“The long-lasting, stuck in place persistency of the ridges and troughs is a good sign for Western Europe/eastern North America as this tells me that once the AO/NAO flips STRONGLY NEGATIVE and MAJOR STRATOSPHERIC WARMING EVENT takes place (recent Icelandic volcanic activity makes me confident of this), then the cold arrives and holds for 3-4 weeks”.
