High 40 degrees (3am) Low 34 degrees (8.34am)
RAIN/SNOW: Overnight rain showers with mix of sleet. Afternoon sleet showers turned to snow showers.
An overnight which actually held at a mild 40 degrees but with a brisk wind from the east made it feel much cooler (low 30s). Some fast moving showers brought rain and within it there was some sleet mixed in. The air temperature was simply not low enough to support snow to the ground. Throughout the course of the day as snow showers hit eastern Britain from the southeast of England to Aberdeenshire, our temps were falling as colder continental air made it’s way across the British Isles. Decent sunshine and a frost across higher ground and across Glasgow but not here! More showers pushed in from the east and sleet turned to snow showers (a personally first encountered snow showers driving across Fenwick moor, Ayrshire around 1pm) and we eventually recieved a dusting with more showers later in the afternoon, briefly whittening the ground. (see photos) A chilly overnight with moisture freezing hard and some grassy surfaces and pavement edges will remain with a touch of snow from earlier, the hills have a light coating. but no dramatic cooling tonight due to mainly the wind but despite that wind which would normally hold reading above freezing, isn’t because this source of air mass is from the continent. I expect lows in the upper 20s by morning and likely holding tomorrow at around 32-34 degrees with a nippy east, northeast wind blowing between 5-10mph making it feel like the mid to upper 20s all day.
