As the system that created an historic event (more detailed look Houston’s snow later) across the Gulf Coast lifts northeast, it is pulling the colder air stationed over the Midwest towards the Eastern Seaboard and there, rains are turning to sleet and snow as temperatures cool off.

Expect 1-4 inches with locally 4-6 inches from Washington through Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City up to Boston. Remarkably a stark contrast to low and mid 60s just a couple of days ago in this region and even a toasty 69 degrees in Boston. Boston may see a decent snowfall from this with some subruban areas collecting a half foot of snow from this system.
Places west of the major cities may see the most snow or between the spine of the Appalachains to just west of the cities we may see heaviest amounts. I am keeping in mind the fact that as Saturday progresses this system is cooling the air and places like much of Jersey and NYC which has experienced rain much of the day may have a tough time getting the snow to stick once it changes from rain.. Time and time again with this type of setup, when you get heavy rains and upper 30s to low 40s and then a cooldown to around freezing and the turnaround to snow, the ground is warm and wet enough for even heavy snow to NOT stick. I do believe the Virginia suburbs of DC may see a good 2-4 with the downtown DC area maybe 1-3 inches. Mountainous Virginia and West Virginia may see locally 12 inches fall.
