EARLY SEASON ARCTIC AIR TO BRING HIGHS IN THE 20S AND LOWS IN THE TEENS…
After 40 inches of snow falls at Red Lodge, Montana and 27 inches at Pine, Idaho an early season Arctic air mass is ready to plunge into the Northern Rockies where highs by Thursday, Friday and Saturday will top only the 20s in many areas of Montana and the western Dakotas with a few high elevated valleys or basins perhaps seeing highs in the upper teens! Wind chills in many areas will likely fall below zero.
Nights with several inches to as much as 2 feet of snow will be well worked by the frigid Arctic high above with it’s brilliantly clear, moonlit skies to bring nighttime lows that may take a run at zero degrees or certainly single digits with places like Butte and Cut Bank, MT that drops off to around 10 degrees. This is an air mass that’s bringing 30 to 35 degree below normal high’s and lows.
What amazing is that this same Arctic high will push eastward over this upcoming weekend and will hold “highs” in the low 40s from Minneapolis to Chicago with wind chills that may hover around freezing even during the daytime hours and nights that fall to freezing. This is quite amazing for this early on. Could we see snowflakes fly in both Minneapolis and Chicago, it could well do as the air just above the ground will certainly be below freezing perhaps just 100 to 300 feet above the surface..
Places in northern Minnesota, such as International Falls will likely see their high only in the 20s for a few days with lows in the teens just like we’ll see across Montana and Wyoming in the next 36 to 48 hours… Places like Saskatoon, Edmonton and Regina may see their high’s in the teens with below zero lows.
Stay tuned as I shall update you with more information as it comes in.
Thanks for reading.
