>I decided to look into the stats once again to see who significent this cool July is when comparing recent hot years to July 2009 which may end one of the coldest July on record with both Chicago and Minneapolis.
For Chicago I have compared 2005 verses 2009 (last 100 degree July day)
2005
Warmest high 102
Coolest high 74
2009
Warmest high 85
Coolest high 65
What’s interesting is that despite 2000 being the last time the city failed to top 90 for July, the warmest low this month is a somewhat cool 66, which in fact is the first time since 1996 that O’Hare International Airport has failed to have a night at 70 or warmer.
It’s be over 19 years since Chicago O’Hare has had a colder max low of 66, when was the last time the warmest night was colder than 67 degrees…
For Minneapolis I have compared to 2006 verses 2009 (last 100 degree July day)
2006
Warmest high 101
Coolest high 78
2009
Warmest high 89
Coolest high 64
The warmest night so far is a mere 67, the last time Minneapolis has failed to have a night of 70 or warmer was in fact that last time they failed to top 90 which was 1994. Ironically, the last time the warmest night was actually cooler than this years warmest of 67 was 1992. Back in July of that year the “warmest night was 66, coolest low was 51.
Another interesting note was that 3 consecutive July’s failed to top 90 back then.
Low solar constant then, but higher volcanic activity (reasoning for cool summer of 92?) but what’s this years reason? Can’t really be volcanic activity surely? Global cooling?)
I shall post more interesting stats for across the US as time prevails.
Thanks for reading.
