Whilst the warmest in New York City has been 85 degrees since June 1, Fairbanks, Alaska has been all the way up to 91 degrees. Why, all thanks to a major ridge that has been dominant up the western portion of North America, all the warm air going so far north and even warming Barrow on the Arctic Ocean coast to 73 degrees, means all the cool air has been pushed south over the central and eastern portion of the continent.
