SCOTLAND: Today’s ‘low level’ snow forecast was a bust! What about tomorrow & Thursday?

I can’t deny that yesterday’s snow forecast for overnight and this morning was a complete bust at low levels. There was nothing when I had thought there would be a lot.

Certainly further north and higher roads further south didn’t escape.

Cold tonight under clear skies and fresh snow cover, coldest east Highland locales should dip towards double digits below.

While we see one system move through the next is waiting in the wings and so the next front sweeps in tomorrow. What will this one bring in terms of precip type?

I recon the same as last night and this morning with rain below and snow above 150-200 metres in the Highlands. With a little more warmth a little further north, the Southern Uplands may be more rain this time.

The GFS snow depth chart over the 24 hours between tonight and tomorrow night doesn’t show much change in depth through the Central Lowlands which to me indicates more rain than snow once again.

Interestingly once the front moves out into the North Sea, colder air sweeps in and it looks like a greater chance of heavy wintry showers to all levels during Thursday.

The model is also picking up some slight accumulation at low levels through the western Central Belt.

Through the weekend much milder air sweeps right across Scotland.

Nearly double digit highs for all Sunday and Monday with the exception of the snow covered Highlands.
