The cool pattern isn’t giving up without a fight and with the continuation of a firmly negative AO/NAO, summer warmth is being beaten back.

Until we can get the positive to drop down from the Arctic and Greenland, this is more wet than warm and sure, the cold shots are weakening but I’ll tell you this, we need to watch the cold pool sitting over a still fully ice covered Hudson Bay with heights building strongly again over Greenland and Alaska. This pushes the Hudson Bay vortex is edge further south and with systems crossing California and the Southern Tier, one must watch for some of that late season, ‘surprise’ arctic air coming south into the Great Lakes and Northeast.
