The North Sea is at it’s coldest of the year and when you’ve an omega blocking high centred over the Norwegian Sea, it tends to be cold, cloudy and breezy down the East Coast of the UK but opposite in the west.

When wind blows off a large body of water this time of year, air temperature pretty much matches water temperature but winds dry and warm as they progress west OVER mountains hence cool and cloudy through the Forth-Clyde Valley yesterday but Southwest and Northwest Scotland was entirely different with abundant sunshine and a solid 10-12C warmer than under the cloud.

We shall remain high and dry through the remainder of this work week and even into next as the high shifts but remains dominant.
The westward retrograde means a wind shift more to the NNW and drop in temperature for the UK’s warm spots and a more uniform spread of cool.
Note the lack of precipitation across the Northwest compared to South of the continent over the next week where it’s often windy, cool with spells of heavy rain and mountain snowfall.

The arctic door shall open late this week and an impressive late season arctic blast will dive over Russia, Ukraine possibly even into central and southeast parts.
March so far!

Moderate to perhaps heavy bursts of snow will dive south aboard the polar front. Behind it, temperatures will be reflective of mid January and not mid March.
